Answer:

Given:

a + b = 9

=> a = 9 - b

Given:

a x b = 18

=> (9 - b) x b = 18

=> 9b - b^2 = 18

=> b^2 - 9b + 18 = 0

=> (b - 3)(b - 6) = 0

=> b = 3 => a = 6

=> b = 6 => a = 3

Hope this helps
